Birds in my garden

Baggeridge Bird Table

WorldBirds own bird table and feeding station, sponcered by Hinksford Farm Shop.

We want your garden list plus where you are in the world.

I feed nuts and seed plus suet from a good traditional local butcher. Scraps from the kitchen are also useful.

(Clive. Lloyd family butchers. Enville street, Wallheath tel 01384-273027)

The suet is a favourite of many birds, on the video there are long tailed tits enjoying it. The Jays and magpies also go for it.

As well as the extra feed plants give plenty of food for the birds, the Goldfinches love thistle and forget-me-not seeds.

My humble garden list.

Grey Partridge Perdix perdix

Long tailed tits feeding on suet.

Bird cake Recipe

Render suet in a saucepan until it's melted mix with seeds and nuts allow to cool in moulds.   Hang it up or put it on the bird table.

Tip:- Try not to make as much mess as I do.

Bird tables don't have to look elegant or be masterpieces of carpentry but it's nice when they are.

The Wood Nuthatch is a constant visitor to our feeding station and garden. They often push a nut into a crevice so they can peck at it.

Getting birds close and confident helps take better photos.

Blackcaps love the nectar from this winter flowering Mahonia.

I'm lucky to see kingfishers from my hide but they don't get close. The Eurasian Green Woodpecker is an infrequent visitor.

The Great Spotted Woodpecker is a daily visitor that is tempted by a feeder full of peanuts.

Common Buzzard by you.

The Eurasian Buzzard has had a remarkable comeback now nests in most parts of the UK. Not a garden bird but one that flies by my window daily.

The view from my window. Buzzards nest on the hill. Where I do all the work on the web site. Bins at the ready.

How many bird species can you make out.

Sitting in my hide listening to the dawn chorus is for me a wonderful experience. Have you got a recording of a dawn chorus .

The house sparrow used to be a common bird but it's numbers fell dramatically by feeding them in your gardens and providing nest sites you can help to stop the decline. By the size of the bib on this bird I cab tell he is a high ranking sparrow.

European Goldfinch

Water is necessary for wildlife, a small pool may get you some unusual visitors.

The European Greenfinch once very common is now scarce in some areas. This one at Venus pool is enjoying sun flower seeds.

This Brambling refused to let me see his face.

Ducks aren't the only wildlife that take advantage of my small pool. Frogs, toads, grass snake and many other birds drink, bathe and find food in the pood.
